Come Inside: Rest, Reset,Resist
Honoring the Darkness, Embracing the Light, A Journey of Rest and Renewal
In the midst of all the online discourse, arguing, and finger-waving, I’ve taken a break from socials—something I often do during this time. The winter invites us to come inside, to turn inward, and to look at the stores we’ve collected. It calls us to simply sit, to pause, and to be. This is the magic of rest, reset, and resist. Rest becomes an act of resilience and reclamation, a radical refusal to bow to the grind culture that asks us to do more, produce more, and be more. At this time I invite you to pause, even from the series. It’s ok to take a break, it’s ok to step away, actually, it’s beyond ok, it is necessary and I deeply encourage it.
The solstice marks a time of profound significance, both in the natural world and in the human spirit. It is the longest night of the year, a time when darkness reaches its peak. Yet within this darkness lies the promise of light—a slow, steady return that reminds us of the cyclical nature of life. For those seeking to reconnect with their cultural roots, the solstice provides powerful imagery and lessons to guide this transformative journey. On this Winter Solstice, the longest night of the year, we are reminded of the cyclical nature of life. Darkness is not an absence—it is preparation. Just as the earth rests in stillness during winter to gather the strength for spring’s growth, so too must we pause and nurture the seeds we have planted throughout the year. The solstice invites us to reflect, integrate, and reclaim the wisdom of our inner light as we prepare for the return of longer days.
This is your sacred invitation to embrace the solstice energy and come inside—within your heart, within your body, and within our community. Let this season be a time of rest, resistance, and renewal, as we gather strength for the new growth to come.
In this season of rest, Make Shi(f)t Happen will be offering biweekly live community support sessions in our Facebook group. These spaces are for you to pause, unpack, and integrate. Together, we’ll explore what it means to heal in community and resist the grind of supremacy culture, which thrives on overwork and disconnection.
The Solstice Cycle: Pause, Reflect, Integrate
Pause
On this longest night, honor the stillness and darkness as a necessary part of the cycle. Give yourself permission to rest and listen deeply to what your body, mind, and spirit need.
Solstice Reflection: What parts of me need rest and healing in this season? How can I honor the darkness as a space of restoration and preparation?Reflect
The solstice is a time to look inward, not in judgment but in curiosity. Honor what you’ve learned, celebrate your growth, and acknowledge what still feels tender. Reflection helps us carry forward the lessons of the past year.
Solstice Reflection: What seeds did I plant this year, and how have they begun to grow? What wisdom can I carry into the coming light of spring?Integrate
Just as the light begins its gradual return after the solstice, integration is a slow and intentional process. It’s about letting your lessons settle deeply into your being so that they can transform how you live and grow.
Solstice Reflection: What practices can I nurture to support my healing? How can I embody the light of my growth as it begins to return?
