Dreaming of Liberated Systems

The Future Is Ours to Build

Supremacy culture thrives on convincing us that the world as it exists is the only possibility. That there is no alternative to capitalism, no escape from oppression, no way to build something new. But history shows us otherwise. Every system we live under was created by people—and that means new, liberated systems can also be created by us.

The work of liberation begins in the imagination.

Before we can build new systems, we have to believe they are possible. We have to see beyond the constraints of what supremacy culture has deemed "realistic" and dream of something that serves us all. But dreaming is not just an individual act—it is a communal process. When we dream together, we unlock new possibilities that no one person could conceive alone.

Today's conversation is about collective dreaming as a tool of liberation—how we unlearn limiting beliefs, break free from oppressive narratives, and co-create new ways of living, working, and existing together.

This article is part of my 100 Days of Community series. If you're finding value in these reflections, consider becoming a paid subscriber. Paid readers get deeper insights, exclusive exercises, and direct access to tools that turn these conversations into actionable transformation.

"Imagination is a tool of liberation. Dreaming of liberated systems begins with imagining possibilities beyond current oppressive structures. That is so important because we get stuck thinking things have to be this way. We talk about voting, about making tweaks to the system, but if we can’t even imagine something beyond it, how will we ever build something better?" (00:06:40 – 00:07:09)

"Supremacy culture discourages dreaming by enforcing ‘realistic’ goals. Liberation requires bold, expansive visions. People will tell you that a new world is impossible, but they forget to mention that those barriers were intentionally put in place to make it seem that way." (00:12:49 – 00:13:07)

These limits are not natural. They were designed. And what is designed can be dismantled. So what happens when we allow ourselves to dream beyond them?
