Liberation Lessons: How to Begin the Work of Decolonizing When It Feels Overwhelming
Dear Liberators,
Starting the journey toward liberation and decolonization can often feel like standing at the base of a mountain, unsure of where the path begins. I know the feeling—there's a weight in realizing just how deeply ingrained systems of oppression are in our minds, our daily habits, and the world around us. It’s natural to feel overwhelmed, to wonder where to begin when everything feels so interconnected.
But I want to remind you of something important: the fact that you are here, questioning, seeking, and committed to the work of liberation, is already a powerful act. This is the first step, and it's no small thing. We all start from a place of wanting to unlearn and heal, and the good news is that you don’t have to figure it all out at once.
In this week’s Liberation Lessons, I’m answering a question that I know many of you are grappling with—"How can I begin the work of decolonizing my mind and daily habits when I feel overwhelmed by where to start?". It’s a question that gets to the heart of this journey because it acknowledges both the enormity of the task and the deep desire to begin.
Using the LIBERATE framework, we’ll explore a step-by-step approach to help you take manageable, meaningful actions that will guide you toward a decolonized, liberated way of living.
Together, we’ll break down this work, offering you the tools to start where you are, and reminding you that each step you take is part of a larger journey—a journey toward healing, justice, and radical change.
