Dear Liberators,

Authority is often presented to children as absolute—an unchallengeable force that must be obeyed without question. This is no accident. Every system we exist within is designed to keep us silent, complicit, and indoctrinated. From schools to workplaces to societal norms, these systems teach us that obedience equals respect and that questioning authority is an act of rebellion rather than justice.

But here’s the truth: there is no way to teach children to challenge unjust systems without encouraging them to be disruptors. Disruption is necessary. Every movement for liberation has been built on the courage to disrupt the status quo and demand better. Our children must learn that their voices and their questions have power—and that power is essential to dismantling systems of oppression.

Teaching children to question authority is not about fostering defiance for its own sake—it’s about helping them discern the difference between just and unjust authority. It’s about equipping them with the tools to stand up for themselves and others, to challenge oppression, and to demand accountability from those in power. These are the skills that will make them not only critical thinkers but also future changemakers.

In this Liberation Lesson, we’ll explore how to guide your children in this transformative process, using the LIBERATE framework to teach them how to question authority constructively and courageously.
