Introduction: The Future We Must Resist

As the holiday season fades and we find ourselves returning to the heaviness of the world’s realities, I hope you’ve had moments of rest, joy, and reflection. This work—tracing the roots of supremacy culture and untangling its oppressive threads—is not easy. It is sacred grief work, requiring us to hold space for the pain of what’s been lost while imagining the possibility of liberation.

In this article, we confront a modern blueprint of Christian supremacy: Project 2025. Positioned as a cultural and legislative agenda, Project 2025 extends the logic of empire and colonization into our present. It reflects the same systems of control, exclusion, and power hoarding that we’ve traced from Bethlehem to the Doctrine of Discovery, Manifest Destiny, and the Industrial Revolution. By exploring its roots and its implications, we deepen our understanding of how oppression is maintained—and, more importantly, how it can be dismantled.

This is sacred work, and it’s heavy. So, before we dive in, I invite you to pause. Take a breath. Remember that while we are dismantling systems, we are also rebuilding ourselves and our communities. Let’s move forward together with care, courage, and a commitment to liberation.

Today, we continue our series, “I Want to Wish You an Eschatological Christmas,” by examining Project 2025. This modern-day blueprint of Christian supremacy threatens to deepen systemic inequities while stifling liberation movements. But understanding Project 2025 isn’t just about critique—it’s about recognizing the patterns of supremacy culture and imagining new futures that resist these cycles of control and exclusion.

Project 2025: The Legacy of Supremacy

Project 2025 is not merely a political agenda—it’s the continuation of a centuries-long project to uphold Christian supremacy and consolidate power within cis, white, wealthy, able-bodied, and patriarchal systems. To understand its significance, we must situate it within the broader arc of history.

From the Doctrine of Discovery to Manifest Destiny

The Doctrine of Discovery framed non-Christian lands as empty and available for conquest, sanctifying the theft of land and the enslavement of people. Manifest Destiny extended this ideology, painting westward expansion as a divine mandate. Both doctrines weaponized faith to justify domination, creating systems that prioritized whiteness, wealth, and power over humanity and equity.

Project 2025 is a modern manifestation of these ideals. Its legislative goals—restricting reproductive rights, eroding racial equity policies, and entrenching corporate interests—mirror the same logic of control and exclusion. Like the Doctrine of Discovery, it frames its objectives as moral imperatives, using Christian narratives to justify harm.

Legislative Domination: Policies That Prioritize Power

Project 2025 presents a legislative agenda deeply rooted in supremacy culture, favoring systems that uphold the power of the cis, white, wealthy, able-bodied, and patriarchal elite. Among its key proposals are:

  • Restrictions on Reproductive Rights: Policies that limit access to abortion and contraception under the guise of protecting "life" reinforce patriarchal control over bodies, particularly those of women, trans, and nonbinary people.

  • Barriers to Racial Equity: Initiatives targeting affirmative action, diversity training, and equitable education perpetuate the myth of meritocracy while preserving systemic racism.

  • Anti-LGBTQ+ Legislation: Efforts to ban gender-affirming care, roll back marriage equality, and target LGBTQ+ rights reflect the erasure of identities that challenge heteronormative and cisnormative frameworks.

These policies are designed not to protect but to control, using legislative power to uphold a hierarchy that privileges a narrow demographic while marginalizing everyone else.

Cultural Dominance: Weaponizing Faith

At its core, Project 2025 relies on the weaponization of faith to maintain cultural dominance. This is not new. From the Puritan vision of America as a "City on a Hill" to Manifest Destiny’s ethos of expansion, Christian supremacy has long been used to justify exclusionary policies.

The "City on a Hill" Ideal

John Winthrop’s vision of a "City on a Hill" framed America as a chosen nation, tasked with exemplifying Christian values. While this rhetoric spoke of community and virtue, it also laid the groundwork for exclusion—creating a standard of morality tied to whiteness, wealth, and Christianity.
