Why we struggle to stay, and how supremacy culture trains us to destroy the very relationships we say we want to build…
Before you read this, pause.
Not to prepare a response.
Not to agree or disagree.
Just notice—
What happens in your body when you hear the word conflict?
Because that reaction is not random.
It’s trained.
Conflict Is Not the Disruption, It’s the Mirror
In our first conversation, we named this truth:
Community is not automatic safety.
Safety is built through repair capacity, not proximity. The Inconvenient Truth: Community Is Not Automatic Safety
·There is a fantasy we are sold about community.
In this conversation, we’re going further:
Conflict is not breaking community.
It is revealing what the community is built on.
Zawn Villines made a great point: Not everything needs to be challenged.
And now we’re sitting inside the tension between those two truths.
Because if everything doesn’t need to be challenged…
but rupture is inevitable…
Then why does every conflict feel like it’s going to break everything?
What it reveals is this:
We have not been taught how to be in relationship without supremacy culture running the room.
The 15 Pillars Don’t Disappear in Community—They Get Louder
Conflict doesn’t create dysfunction.
It exposes it.
Every time conflict escalates, you are watching the pillars in real time:
Sense of Urgency → “We need to address this right now.”
Perfectionism → “You should have known better.”
Defensiveness → “That’s not what I meant.”
Either/Or Thinking → “Someone is wrong here.”
Fear of Open Conflict → avoidance… until explosion
Individualism → “I don’t need this space.”
Power Hoarding → “I get to decide what counts as harm.”
This is why small disagreements become full fractures.
Not because the moment was big.
But because the system underneath it is.
Conflict Isn’t the Problem
The way we’ve been conditioned to move through it is.
What we’re witnessing in our communities…
the escalation, the call-outs, the blocking, the fracture
is not because people don’t care.
It’s because we’ve been shaped by a culture that teaches us:
conflict = danger
disagreement = disrespect
discomfort = harm
being wrong = losing value
So when conflict shows up, it doesn’t feel like something to navigate.
It feels like something to survive.
Fear of Conflict Creates Violent Conflict
This is the part people don’t want to hear.
Avoiding conflict doesn’t make community safer.
It makes it more explosive.
When we don’t have the capacity to:
name tension early
sit in discomfort
tolerate disagreement
Conflict doesn’t disappear.
It builds.
And when it finally comes out, it comes out sideways:
personal attacks
character assassination
punishment instead of accountability
harm that is disproportionate to the moment
What could have been a conversation…
becomes a rupture we don’t know how to repair.
What You Are Witnessing in This Series
This series with Zawn is not about agreement.
It’s about capacity.
We:
disagree
challenge each other
hold different lived experiences
And we stay.
Not because it’s comfortable.
Because it’s intentional.
Because we are practicing what we are teaching.
The Truth Most People Don’t Want
If you cannot:
be wrong
be corrected
sit in discomfort
stay in relationship when it’s hard
You cannot build community.
You can build alignment.
You can build audience.
You can build performance.
But not community.
A Decade in the Making
I want to name something here.
This work you are seeing take shape—
this language, these frameworks, this methodology—
This is not new for me.
This is over a decade of study, practice, unlearning, and lived experience.
This is me pulling together what I have been building
quietly, consistently, relationally.
So while I may not have been here as often as I once was…
I have been doing the work.
Deeply.
Intentionally.
And I want to say thank you to those of you who stayed.
Those who didn’t need constant visibility to trust the process.
Those who understand that real work is not always loud or frequent.
Those who recognize that stepping back is not absence… it is integration.
Yes, I lost paid (15) subscribers.
And I’m not going to rush past that.
Because the demand for constant visibility, constant output, constant performance
That is colonial.
That is supremacy culture.
That is the belief that if something is not always being shown, it must not be happening.
And that is not how transformation works.
So to those who stayed…
That is staying power.
That is relationship.
That is trust.
And that is the foundation of everything I am building, and we are co-creating together.
For Those Ready to Practice
What I’m about to share is not theory.
It’s practice.
And practice requires consent.
If you’re ready to move from understanding this work
to actually living it…
keep going.
