I don’t think I realized I was decolonizing my parenting before reading this but like many elder millennial parents I definitely have been questioning inherited ideas about obedience, control, and “good behavior.” Instead, focusing on connection, consent, and letting my kids express big feelings without fear. It’s a daily practice of unlearning—and listening more than I speak.
