Redesigning Leadership Structures for Equity

From Hierarchy to Healing: A Call for Collaborative Leadership

Let’s be real: most of us were raised and trained to accept leadership as a top-down structure. Whether it was in our homes, schools, churches, or jobs—authority has often meant power over others instead of with others. Today’s conversation was a reminder that if we want to build liberated, equitable spaces, we’ve got to reimagine what leadership looks like. Because equity doesn’t emerge from control—it is birthed through responsibility, shared power, and deep listening.

We’re still in the Season of Self, but the energy is shifting into emergence. And part of that emergence is asking:
What am I still holding onto that mirrors supremacy culture’s leadership style?

"Leadership is not about authority—it’s about responsibility."
In this clip, I break down what it truly means to lead with integrity—not from control, but from care. We talk about how leadership becomes a responsibility to community and why authority without accountability is a tool of supremacy culture.

3 Key Takeaways

  1. Traditional hierarchies are pyramid schemes rooted in supremacy culture.
They are designed to exclude and maintain systems of power—so if it looks like a pyramid, it’s probably not equitable.

  2. Collaborative leadership fosters equity and co-creation.
True inclusion isn’t about adding folks to your table for optics—it’s about building the table together.

  3. Leadership is responsibility, not control.
Holding space, being accountable, and creating environments of safety and shared voice is the true work of equity-centered leadership.
